Liberty - Angelo A. Quaranta passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at his home in Liberty Township. He was born on June 5, 1925, in Barrea, Italy, to Tommaso Quaranta and Carmela (Uzzeo) Quaranta. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Cesidia (Dicristofaro) Quaranta; his sons Anthony (Lisa) of Denver, Colorado; Angelo (Anne) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Edward (Tara) of Easton, Pa.; his daughter Lori of Youngstown; and his grandsons Leonardo, Anthony and Dominic. He emigrated to the United States at the age of 12, eventually settling in Youngstown, where he graduated from South High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a Sergeant in the Signal Corps. At the age of 18, he was inducted in the U.S. Army. Like many of his generation and homeland, the Army sent him to North Africa, Italy and France, where he served with distinction, earning campaign medals for valor. Nothing pleased him more than having his family and friends around him and telling stories about WWII, and talking about the greatness of the men he served with. He was the owner and operator of Lansdowne Avionics, having run his own business for more than 40 years. He was a member of St. Anthony Church in Youngstown, and he provided the speakers through which parish priests’ voices were heard over the years. He gave selflessly to others and was a fixture in the local Italian community. He was a founding member of the Youngstown Ding-a-Lings Fishing Club. He was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony (Elizabeth) Quaranta of Boardman; and his sister, Tomassina (Joseph) D’Annessa of Youngstown. Family and friends will gather from 4-8pm on Wednesday and from 9-9:45am on Thurday in Schiavone Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Anthony Church at 10am on Thursday. Angelo will be buried in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
