John Altieri, 86
Liberty – A mass of Christian Burial will be said Wed. Dec. 31, 2014 at 10 AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church for John Altieri, 86 who died yesterday at the residence of his daughter in Cortland. John was the son of James V. Altier and Mary J. Mulidoro who was born July 29, 1928 in Youngstown. He worked for the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad as a cook and Derrick Crane Operator with the Wrecking Crew. While at St. Anthony of Padua Church, he was a member of its School Bus Club and Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop No. 9. He was also a softball coach for the Liberty Girls League. John enjoyed bowling in the Italian-American Mixed League at Camelot Lanes and was a member of the Giuseppe Verdi Lodge No. 460 and Knights of Italy. He served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CV 42 and is survived by a son; Vincent (Afrodite) Altieri, two daughters; Connie (David) Miller and Kathryn (Peter) Hickox, two grandchildren; Irene and Anthony, and a sister; Leona DiPietro. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, the former Irene E. Lyons whom he married Aug. 28, 1954 died March 9, 1995, and a daughter, Mary. Family and friends may call Tues. Dec. 30, from 5-7 PM and Wed. Dec. 31, from 9-9:45AM at Schiavone Funeral Home. Burial will be in Belmont Park Cemetery with Military Honors.
