Youngstown- Louis was born in Youngstown on October 2, 1925, to his parents, James and Mary Allegrette Salreno. He proudly served in the US Navy during the final two years of World War II. He returned home to finish high school and graduated from Chaney High School in 1947 and attended Youngstown College. He was a member of the church and served as a financial clerk and usher. Louis also spent many hours in the church garden planting and harvesting vegetables for St. Anthony pizza. From 1949 to 1952 Louis was a professional baseball player on the New York Yankees Minor League Affiliates. He played in 262 games and was known as a powerful hitter. He had 842 times at bat, 13 home runs, and a batting average of 294. He slid into home plate, scored the run, and broke his ankle, which ended his baseball career. For the next 35 years, he worked as a welder for Youngstown Steel Door. He was a devout Catholic and lived his life with traditional Christian values, faith, and dedication to his family.
