Mary H. (Skarote) Salreno

Youngstown - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church at 10:30 am on Sat. Feb. 27, 2016 for Mary H. Salreno, 83 who passed away Tues. Feb. 23 following a lengthy illness with her family by her side. She was born in Youngstown on May 25, 1932 to her parents, Henry and Minnie Vivo Skarote. Mary was a 1950 graduate of East High School and a member of the church. She was a life-long homemaker, priding herself on the manner in which she kept her home and took care of her family as a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family. Every Sunday and holiday she prepared a traditional Italian family dinner. The favorite dishes were her lasagna, Italian wedding soup, and stuffed artichokes. Following every dinner, the family played cards, board games, or watched football.  Over the years, she enjoyed attending all the activities of her children & grandchildren such as baseball games, dance recitals, track meets, and others.  She also enjoyed traveling & taking many bus trips with her friends and family. Mary is survived by her husband; Louis whom she married Oct. 15, 1955, her daughter; Mary Salreno, her son; James (Maria) Salreno; her sisters; Katharine (Pat) Hickey and Elizabeth Mirone, her brothers; Gerald (Kathy) Skarote and Joseph (Christine) Skarote, her grandchildren; Louis (JoAnne) Salreno of Norfolk, VA, Katelyn Salreno, Christine Gray, and Santino Salreno. She was preceded in death by her brothers; James Skarote and Samuel Skarote, and her sister; Josephine Casalini. Family and friends will gather from 9:30 to 10:30 am in the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
