Mike T. Naples passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25 2016 after a courageous three-year battle with renal cell cancer. Mike was born in Briar Hill on March 7, 1936. The son of Sandy J. and Rose (Menelle) Naples. He was raised on the East side of Youngstown and graduated from Youngstown North High school in 1954 where he was a 2 year Letterman in football, basketball and track. He also was voted Prom King that year, something we all loved to tease him about. He then went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army, being stationed in Landstuhl, Germany in the seventh army. Upon returning home to the United States, he began a 35 year career as a patrolman with the Youngstown Police Department retiring in the early 90s. He also was co-owner of Farmers Daughter Bakery in the sixties. Mike had an incredible artistic talent and decorated some of the best birthday cakes that a young boy growing up could ask for. I guess in some ways he was the original "Cake Boss"In retirement, Mike kept busy with numerous activities, including playing bocce, cooking, baking, canning, gardening, making the famous "Black Gold " Italian dried sausage, and keeping alive those Italian traditions his mother taught him. He also loved spending time with his beloved grandchildren, nephews and nieces. When he was out on the town everybody referred to him as "Uncle Mike". He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his sons Michael (Claudia) Naples and Dr. Sandy (Katie) Naples. The mother of his children Adelheid (Exner) Naples, his sister Barbara Jean "Bobo" (James) D'sidocky and sister-in-law Janice Naples. His grandchildren Colette, Cara, Chelsea, Angelo, Lucia and Sofia Naples. Also, his beloved nieces and nephews Tommy (Samantha) Naples, Doreena Naples-Colasurd, Dominic (Traci) Naples, Nicole (Dave) Ferraro and Jimmy D'Sidocky. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his brother Thomas "Deemer" Naples. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-8 at Schiavone funeral home. The family would like to thank Mike's physicians, Dr. Art Duran and Dr. Chris Knight, the staff at Masternick Memorial Hospital and the team from hospice for their excellent and compassionate care.
