Rita Mae (Romeo) Novello

Liberty - A Funeral Service will be held at 1pm on Friday, July 7, 2017 in Schiavone Funeral Home for Rita Mae (Romeo) Novello, 77, who passed away at home on July 3, 2017. Rita was the daughter of Vincenzo (James) and Rosary Carbon Romeo, born on August 24, 1939 in Youngstown. She dedicated her life to education, beginning with her own graduation from The Rayen School in 1957. She then graduated from Youngstown University in 1961 where she was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. Rita taught Spanish for the Jackson-Milton Local Schools, Bristol Local Schools, and the Liberty Local Schools from where she retired. She participated in the Trumbull County Saturday Enrichment Program for many years, teaching Spanish to third graders. During her time with the Liberty School System, Rita was honored by her former students in the inaugural edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. She was recognized for her dedication and enthusiasm in helping to shape her student’s values and for challenging them to strive for excellence. Rita is survived by three children, Derek (Lynn) Novello of Mineral Ridge, Danielle (Charles) Heiden of Columbus, and Dale Novello of Liberty; five grandchildren, Gino, Mario, Thomas, Alex, and Kelsi; four sisters, Rose Armeni of Morgantown, WV, Marie Davidson of Howland, and Grace O’Connor and Jean Romeo of Liberty. In addition to her parents and husband Daniel Novello whom she married August 3, 1963, died March 9, 2001, Rita was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Patsy, and infant Vincent Romeo; and two sisters, Marie Lebo and infant Karen Romeo. Calling hours will be held from 11am-1pm on Friday before the service. The family would like to thank Grace Hospice and the caregivers there for the care they showed Rita and they ask that donations be made to Grace Hospice, 7206 Market St. Youngstown, OH 44512 in Rita’s memory.
