Teresa Ann Naples Harmicar, 55

Pinehurst, NC- A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am at St. Michael Church on Thursday Aug. 15, 2013 for Teresa Ann Naples Harmicar, formerly of Canfield who died August 9, 2013. She was born on June 12, 1958 to the late James and Eva Gentile Naples. In 1976 she graduated from Ursuline High School and then obtained a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Youngstown State University in 1981. Three years after graduation she married Thomas J. Harmicar on September 17, 1983. She was employed by Mahoning County Sanitary Engineers for 16 years. Upon making a career change she worked for Henderson, Covington, Newman, and Thomas until her retirement to Pinehurst in 2008. Terri was a member of St. Michael in Canfield and Sacred Heart in Pinehurst. She was also a member of the YSU Lifetime Alumni, Youngstown Penguin Club, and Salem Golf Club. During her time in Pinehurst she became a member of the Pinehurst Resort & Country Club, Silver Foils, Pinehurst Women’s Golf Association, Birdies Golf Association, Pinehurst Women’s Garden Club, Ohio State University Alumni Association, and Ohio State University Sandhills Alumni Club of North Carolina. She was an active volunteer for the First Health Moore Regional Hospital as a clown who was affectionately known as “Peaches” and where she enjoyed bringing smiles to patients she visited especially at the Rehabilitation Unit where she was later a patient herself. She also volunteered for the annual U.S. Teens and Kids Golf World Championships in Pinehurst and was looking forward to volunteering at both the Men’s and Women’s U.S. Open Golf Championships next year. In addition to golf, Terri enjoyed tennis, pickelball, running, and working out. She especially enjoyed baking and delivering her baked goods and snacks to friends and neighbors just to see them smile. Her favorite memories included canning tomatoes with her family and holiday trips back to Ohio just because it was a Youngstown thing. Terri and her husband loved to travel to golf tournaments all over the country and that is how she fell in love with Pinehurst during the 2005 Open. She also loved attending YSU football games both in Youngstown and the many on the road games they witnessed but, most of all she enjoyed her family. Her family was the most important fixture in her life and she drew special joy from the accomplishments of her nieces and nephews. Terri is survived by her husband, siblings; Victoria (Charles) Hanni of Austintown, James (Michelle) Naples of Canfield, and Anne (Thomas) Snyder of Youngstown, nieces; Mariah and Hannah Snyder of Youngstown and niece and nephew; Alexandra and James Naples of Columbus. The Harmicar and Naples family would like to give special thanks to Betsy Bindley, her sister from another mother, who was a very special caregiver during her nine month battle with brain cancer. Friends and family may call on Wednesday Aug. 14, from 5-8 pm at the Schiavone Funeral Home in Youngstown and on Thursday one hour before the mass in church. Memorial gifts can be sent in Terri’s name to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Center at DUMC Box 3624 Durhan, NC 27710.

Tom and family,
I wish I could be with you as you put Terri to rest this week. Although she will be missed by so many, she is finally pain free and watching over all of us. I am headed to Parker, Colorado for the LPGA Solheim Cup tomorrow. I'm working for The Golf Channel and will do something special in her honor during the practice rounds Thursday. I'll place a golf ball with her initials in a place where she can see all the action the rest of the week. God Bless.

Words cant express the heaviness in our hearts today as we read this. What an outstanding life she had, which shows you measure things by quality, not quantity. May the angels and saints come to meet her, may the perpetual light shine on her, and may she look into the face of Jesus himself and smile as he smiles at her.

God bless.

Tom and Family: Over the last five years Steve and I grew to love and enjoy Terri's casual visits on her way to and from your house. She loved bringing us all those chocolate desserts she made - she always said she didn't want to eat it all. She also became one of my father's favorite people because when he was visiting, he knew she would stop buy with anything chocolate. She will always be missed here in Pinehurst, but we know she is somewhere in heaven swinging that golf club that was so effortless for her.

Tom and family,
Although we were not close friends with Teri, she touched our hearts with her warm and sincere caring "how are you" and wonderful smile whenever we met. One of my favorite memories of Teri was the day we were playing #6 and she was out doing yard work. I asked her if she "hired out" and an instant smile crossed her face as she said "for chocolate". Our prayers are always with you Tom. Teri will truly be missed by everyone she has touched in any way in her life.

Terri touched so many lives in her time in Pinehurst. If you knew her, you liked her. It was that simple. She always was upbeat and positive so everyone enjoyed her company. Each of us will have special memories of Terri. Mine include our fitness center classes, book club evenings, and golf outings. I still look for her at the gym where we would talk to catch up before or after our workouts. So many thanks go to Tom for recognizing our need to keep up with Terri's health issues. His love for her and for her friends cannot be understated.
