Youngstown - George E. Whitacre of Youngstown passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018 at his home with his loving family by his side. George was 71 years old. He was born Aug. 19, 1946 to Caroline Wilkes Whitacre and David W. Whitacre of Youngstown, Ohio. George attended Youngstown grade schools and North High School. At 16 he joined the Navy and was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Academy. Upon leaving the Navy, George worked for local towing companies before joining the Local Teamsters Union #377. George enjoyed fishing and camping and took great pleasure in raising his Pit Bulls. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. George is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy Davis Whitacre formerly of Sharon, PA; his son, Robert G. (Brandi) Whitacre of Hubbard; two daughters, Rochelle Whitacre of Hubbard and Melissa Beasley of Youngstown; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and his foster son, Bill Johnson of Youngstown. He also had a special bond with his nephew Rick Whitacre and Jeff Doss. George was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, David Whitacre of Youngstown, James Whitacre of Youngstown, Eddie Julius of Pennsylvania, and Carl Julius of California; three sisters, Mildred Whitacre of Youngstown, Barbara Platt of Brookfield, and Edie Levy of Texas. Calling hours will be held at Schiavone Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018 from 2-4pm with a service to follow.
