A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 10am in St. Rose Church for Ronald R. Filipan, 82 who died in Hospice House early Tuesday morning. Ronald was born in McDonald on July 3, 1936 to his parents, Raymond and Virginia Nafe Filipan. Graduating from Niles McKinley High School in 1955, he lettered in baseball, football, and basketball and played baseball for the US Marine Corp where he was honorably discharged as Corporal in 1962. He worked as a motor inspector for US Steel McDonald Works for 23 years and as a self-employed residential painter for over 10 years. Ronald was a member of the U.S. Steel Workers Union #1307, Painter’s, Decorator’s, & Paperhanger’s Union #476, St. George Croatian Lodge #66, and K of C Girard Council where he served as a 3rd degree knight. His hobbies included watching college sports especially, Notre Dame. He is survived by his wife, Loretta M. Guido whom he married July 1, 1961; his daughter, Rhonda Suzanne Filipan, PhD; his sister, Shirley Kundel and was preceded in death by his parents. Family and friends will gather on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 7-9pm in Schiavone Funeral Home and at the church on Saturday morning.
