Youngstown - We were blessed to have had our father, Stan (Selone) Zitello with us for 101 years. He was born on Feb. 16, 1916 in Youngstown, Ohio, to Frank and Giovanina Martone Zitello. He died on April 11, 2017 in the presence of family members.

Stan was a Navy veteran, a member of The Knights of Columbus, the ITAM Club, and the Sheet Metal Workers Union.

He loved working Bingo for the Knights and for St. Brendan’s Church, where he was a member. He was an avid bowler for many years and a faithful follower of the Cleveland Indians and the Scrappers.

Lucky, as he was called in his youth, met Ann Margaret Mele while he was playing baseball at Tod Park. They married in 1935 and enjoyed 58 years together.

Along with his nephew, Joseph Ignazio, he established J & S Heating Service on Temple St. Stan became one of Youngstown's first air-conditioning installers and was known as a fair and hard-working businessman.

He and Ann raised six children: Stan (Mary) Zitello of Mentor, JoAnn (Jack) Krivonak of New Springfield, Patricia (Ron Bolicek) Hripko of Hemet, Calif., Frank Zitello of Youngstown, Dennis Zitello of Poland, and PeggyAnn (Ronnie) Birchfield of Youngstown.

As family was most important to him, Stan considered himself blessed with 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He leaves his sister, Gloria "Mitzi" (Robert) Jakubek.

Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Ann in 1993, and also his brothers Benny (Helen) Zitello, Sam (Annie) Zitello, John (Lillian) Zitello, Robert (Lucille) Zitello, Frank (Dorothy) Zitello, and Anthony Zitello. He also was preceded in death by his sisters, Angeline (Andy) Bozin and Natalie (Fred) McBride.

Stan’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Charles Wilkins, and his staff, for their loving care of 25 years. They enabled us to enjoy our father's good health and spirited love-of-life through his 101st birthday. We would also like to share our appreciation to The Guardian Angels Home Health Care, who aided him in being able to enjoy the comfort and pleasure of his home for the past two years.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Rescue Mission of Mahoning County.
