Liberty - Carl "Carmen" Barbone Sr., 90 passed peacefully on Feb. 25, 2016 in the Emergency Department of Northside Medical Center after a short illness. Carmen was born May 5, 1925 at his family's home on Dearborn Street in Brier Hill. His first job was with Strouss Hirshberg, in the flooring department. He was in the US Army from 1943 to 1946 and served overseas in Europe where he received the EAME Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Metal, and the Victory Medal for WWII. Carmen married Margaret Beard on Aug. 23, 1947. They were married 62 years when Margaret passed on Aug. 26, 2009, just three days after their anniversary. Carmen worked at the General Fire Proofing Company as a millwright for 42 years, and was certified in electronics, hydraulics, and as a Boiler Maker. He attended computer school and built his own home in Liberty Township. Carmen belonged to many bowling and golf leagues in the area. He was an active member of ITAM and currently a member of ITAM Post 12, AARP, VFW, and St. Anthony of Padua Church. One of the joys of his life was an 11 day trip to Italy with his cousins Fran and Leo DelGarbino in March 1995. They visited Rome, Florence, Capri, Assisi, and Pisa. In Aug. 2014, he was named "Man of the Year" at the Brier Hill Italian Fest. Carmen leaves his daughter; Carla and sons; Michael and Carl Jr. all of Liberty Township, his brother; Dominic (Rose) Sarno of Niles, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors. He also leaves a grand dog; Lucy. He was preceded in death by his parents; Dominic and Louise Chieffo Barbone, his wife, his sisters; Ann (Neil) Pallante, Julia (Dan) Pecchio and Madeline (Walter) Kohowski, his brother; Michael Barbone, his niece Eloise Pallante Peterson, and his nephew; Daniel Pecchio. Calling hours will be held this evening from 4 to 7 PM at Schiavone Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said tomorrow at 1:30 PM in St. Anthony of Padua Church.
