Charles J. Dietz, 95
New Springfield – A mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 24, 2014 at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony Church in Youngstown, for Charles J. Dietz, 95, who passed away at Hospice House, in North Lima, on March 19, 2014.He was born April 5, 1918 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Joseph and Christina Schranz Dietz and moved to Youngstown when he was five years old.Charles enlisted into the Army/Air Core on December 6, 1941 and served until January 1, 1946. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Military Police in the South Pacific.He was a proud member of Baker's Local 19 and worked at Hathway Nickles, Schwebel's Bakery, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Crank-N'-Sleeve Shop with his son. He was a lifetime member of the VFW He married Josephine J. Bettura in 1946 who passed away October 22, 1965 and on September 7, 1985 he married Edith Sackella who passed away November 26, 2011.Charles leaves a son; Jerry (Linda) Dietz, stepdaughter; Julie (Chuck) Phipps Sr., stepson; Stephen (Charlotte) Sackella, grandchildren; Mark (Michelle) Dietz, Frank (Jennifer) Dietz, Kim (Eric) Schlegel, Chuck (Shelly) Phipps Jr., Tod (Julie) Sackella, and Brad (Kristen) Sackella, 15 great grandchildren, and two great- great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters; Gertrude Cook, Alberta McNamara, and Rosemarie Dietz who died as a child.Calling hours will be held at Schiavone Funeral Home in Youngstown from 5-7 PM on Sunday March 23, 2014 and from 8:45-9:45 AM on Monday March 24, 2014. Internment will take place in Belmont Cemetery. The family requests donations are made in Charles' memory to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St. Youngstown, OH 44512.
