Donald E. Godfrey, 86
McDonald - Donald Godfrey was born in Grant town, West Virginia on March 2, 1927. He served in the US Navy for six years during World War II and after coming home he decided to further his education by attended Fairmont State University in WV. Upon gaining a Master degree in education he went to teach for one year in the Windham School System before finding his niche was in the steel mills. Being a hardworking man he stayed there for 38 years and then retired from LTV in Niles. He was known for his quick wit, funny jokes, and love of dancing to country western music. He was also an active member in the VFW Post 1090, Commander at the VFW Post 3332, and a member of the Lake Milton American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Gail (Sherk) Godfrey of McDonald, his brothers; Elbert Godfrey of FL. and Olin Godfrey of Ravenna, his sisters; Zela Wilson and Geneva Osbourne of West Virginia, two daughters; Nancy Jo (Steve) Clifford of Ravenna and Sherry (Greg) Smith of Arkansas, his son; Galen Godfrey of Ravenna, a step-daughter; Amy Puz of Girard, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents; George and Ione (Hyer) Godfrey, brothers; George Jr. and Kenneth Godfrey, and sister; Lorraine Godfrey. Calling hours will be Monday, October 14, 2013 at 4 P.M. in Open Door Church in McDonald where a service will take place at 5 P.M. followed by a dinner. Donations may be made to the family to help with funeral costs. Burial will be in Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
