Frances Gale, 94
Hubbard – Frances Gale passed away Wednesday, November 13 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her daughter and friends by her side. November 13, the feast day of Saint Frances Cabrini…now another saintly Frances is joining her.
She was born September 2, 1919, in Youngstown, OH, a daughter of Barbara (Klein) and Joseph Moritz.
Frances spent her entire life in Youngstown. In addition to being a homemaker, she had been employed at the Ohio Leather Company.
Many benefited by her baking talents: Easter seal events, her famous pineapple upside down cake baked every year for the past 20 years for her daughter's lake friends, or baking for the church festivals. She always had the time.
She is survived by her daughter, Carole G. McDonough (Liberty), and her sister-in-law Genvieve Moritz (Scottdale, PA), several nieces and nephews, and her great great niece Marie Dankovich (Arlington, VA). In addition, she is survived by her daughters of "heart": Nancy Lawson, Angela Kunze, Pattie Novello, Carole Elias, Vilma O'Neil, and Doris Novello, and her very special niece of "heart" Candice Elizabeth Lawson. Frances was a second mother to all of her daughter's friends.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter Carole and her beloved "Maggie" who was by her side 24/7.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband William P. Gale, who passed away July 6, 1990, her brothers: Andrew, Joseph, and John Moritz and her sisters: Mary Korandovitch, Anna Simmons, and Josephine "Betty" Moritz.
Frances had been a member of the Easter Seals Auxiliary and a sustaining member of the Angels of Easter Seals. She was generous of time, heart, and purse and she was a member of St. Patrick Church (Hubbard) and its senior citizen group.
A friend summed up her life so well: "a great lady of a generation that defined our culture." 94 years old, she was active in mind and spirit and never lost her wit to the end.
Her daughter is grateful for the many years of professional, kind care provided by Dr. Gerald Mihok and his staff. During the last few months, Dorothy Martin and Beverly Mumaw provided her with loving and tender care.
Friends and family may call from 4 – 7 pm tonight at Schiavone Funeral Home and tomorrow morning beginning at 11 am at St. Patrick Church in Hubbard. A mass will follow at noon.
