Ida Marie (Restaino) Carfolo

Ida Marie (Restaino) Carfolo, 87, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away early morning of February 24th at Hospice House after a short illness.

Ida was born on September 5, 1931 in Youngstown, at the home of what was to be her lifelong friend, Rose Mancini Tomadejwicz. She was the daughter if Italian immigrants, Anna (Marinucci) Restaino and Pasquale Restaino, who left their native county to make a new life in America.

She was a 1949 graduate of Chaney High School where she excelled in English; leading her to love reading, debating, especially with her nephew Chris who passed away in 1985 and correcting her children's grammar. Her lifelong dream was to become an English teacher; however, at the age of eighteen she chose the role of wife and mother. On September 10, 1949, she married Samuel A. Carfolo, and for sixty-six years they worked together to provide a good life for their family until Sam's passing on May 31, 2016.

Ida leaves to cherish her memory, her brother, Silvio (Antonia) Restaino; her daughter, Patricia Carfolo of Canfield with whom she made her home; her son, Attorney Mark Carfolo of Boardman; the light of her life, her grandchildren, Olivia Marie and Michael Anthony Carfolo; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Ida taught all that knew her that "life was hard, but to live it well." Ida enjoyed spending the afternoons with her caregivers, Joann Cappitte, Judy Gries, and Dee Dee Mcglone watching television and chatting.

A prayer service will be held at 9:30 am on Thursday February 28th at Schiavone Funeral Home, 1842 Belmont Ave, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Anthony Church. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery of Youngstown.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday, February 27th from 5-8pm at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please kindly consider a donation to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd, in Ida's name.
