Jean Ann Romeo, a beloved educator, librarian, and family historian, passed away on February 8, 2026. She was born on April 25, 1949 in Youngstown, to the late Vincenzo and Rosary Carbon Romeo. Jean grew up in the Brier Hill neighborhood, shaping her lifelong connection to the area.

Jean was a dedicated scholar. She graduated with honors from The Rayen School and earned a full scholarship to Ohio University, where she was inducted into the Phi Betta Kappa honor society. She received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Spanish and Library Science from Ohio University and Kent State University, respectively.

Her career was marked by a passion for education and information. She began as a Spanish teacher at Zanesville High School, later serving as a reference librarian at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Jean concluded her career as the esteemed reference librarian at Youngstown State University, retiring in 2009.

Beyond her professional life, Jean was the cherished family historian, maintaining close relationships with her siblings and extended family. She found joy in cooking, baking, gardening, attending concerts, and traveling.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John and Patsy Romeo; her sisters, Rose Armeni, Grace O’Connor, Marie C. Lebo, and Rita Novello; and two infant siblings.

She is survived by her sister, Marie A. Davidson of Howland and numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.

Private services were held yesterday at 1:30pm in Schiavone Funeral Home with burial in Tod Homestead Cemetery.
