Jean Young, 93

Liberty – Services will be held at Schiavone Funeral Home for Jean Fortnat Young who died Dec 7, 2013. She was born on July 19, 1920, the daughter of Frank and Helen Anderson Fortnat and was a lifelong area resident of Youngstown. Her husband of 62 years, Michael Young died Oct. 2, 2003. Jean attended Tod, Hayes Jr. High school and The Rayen School. She worked for Stambaugh Thompson in the accounting department for several years. Then, she worked for their family owned grocery store E-Z Market for 45 years alongside her husband.
Jean loved to bowl, cook, and bake but most of all she enjoyed ballroom dancing with the love of her life, Mike. They were members of the Skylark Dance Club along with many of their close friends. Her favorite songs were Unforgettable and When I Fall in Love by Nat King Cole. Jean also loved cooking for family gatherings and looked forward to holiday celebrations.
She is survived by her children; Michele (Bill) Helbig of Columbus, Michael Jr. with whom she made her home, her granddaughter; JoLynn (Thomas) Goldner and a foster son; Leo Connelly. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law; Lucille Young and Laura Dulay as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews whom she loved dearly.
Beside her parents she is preceded in death by her son Joseph Patrick Young who passed away in June of this year, a brother; Robert A. Fortnat, and a sister; Virginia Kline Anderson.
Calling hours will be held Fri. Dec. 13, from 5-7:30pm and Sat. morning, at 9am at Schiavone Funeral Home where a procession to St. Brendan Catholic Church will take place for a 10 am mass.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley in memory of Jean's son, Joseph P. Young.
