John M. Kassai, 78, affectionately known as Johnny, passed away at his home on August 22, 2026.

He was born on December 15, 1947, in Youngstown and was a 1966 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. Johnny served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1969, stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church and worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube for 5 years and as an assistant manager at Nemenz IGA in Struthers for 25 years.

Johnny will be remembered with love by those closest to him. He is survived by his sister, Linda Xereas; his nephews, John Xereas (Gio) and Stephen Xereas (Sydney); his great nieces, Malia, and Ellianna and his great nephew, Giovanni all of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth George Kassay. As well as his sister, Elizabeth Kassay who was born on Christmas Day 1939 and died on Christmas Eve 2024.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the chapel in Tod Homestead Cemetery, 2200 Belmont Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44505. A prayer service with military honors will follow at 2:00pm officiated by Pastor Adam Rodgers.
