Youngstown – A mass of Christian Burial will be said Fri. March 7, 2014 at 10 am in St. Christine Church for John "Oats" Santon, 93 who died Tues. afternoon in Camelot Arms Care Center. John was born May 27, 1920 in Youngstown, a son of Joseph and Theresa Montesano Santon Sr. He was a welder by trade working at United Engineering & Foundry and also Truscon Steel Co. He lived a zestful life. In the 1930s he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. and was an Army Air force Veteran who served in India and Burma during the Asiatic Pacific Theater. At the age of 73, he went sky diving. He was an avid scratch golfer and boxer. John enjoyed Tressel football and aerial photography. He is survived by two brothers; Joseph and Dan, two sisters; Laura Perry and Delphina Williams, and many nieces and nephews along with many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; the former Margaret L. "Peggy" Collins whom he married Nov. 1, 1945 died March 17, 1997, a son; John Phillip Santon, and two brothers; Ernest and Dominic. Friends and family may gather one hour before the mass in church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to Disabled American Veterans at 2044 Youngstown Rd. SE, Warren, Ohio 44484.
