Joseph F. Julius, D.D.S., F.A.G.D., 81
Niles - Joseph Julius went home to be with the Lord on May 7 passing away at his residence at Autumn Hills Care Center, Niles, Ohio following a prolonged illness.
Joseph was born in Youngstown, Ohio on March 19, 1933. He was a resident of the Northside of Youngstown. In 1951 he graduated from The Rayen School (High School). Following his military service in the Army (1953-1955), he returned to Youngstown where he worked while attending Youngstown College.
He married his wife, Joan (Agnone) on September 13, 1958, and they began their life together in Columbus, Ohio while he attended The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He graduated with his D. D. S. in June 1964 and returned to Youngstown to serve his hometown. After completing his dental residency at Northside and Southside Hospitals in June 1966, he entered private practice in Liberty Township. He served the people of his hometown for over 43 years before retiring from private practice in 2009.
Joe taught in the Dental Hygiene program at Youngstown State University during the late 1970's and throughout the 1980's. Joe earned statewide recognition from the Ohio Dental Association with the Pursell-Heibert award in both 1977 and 1979. He was an impetus behind the start of the annual Health-O-Rama at YSU in the 1980's. He served Trumbull County as a Forensic Dentistry specialist in the 1970's and 1980's, providing key testimony in a number of criminal cases. Joe was admitted as a Fellow of the American Academy of General Dentistry in 1982. He was also awarded Best Table Clinic at the Toledo Dental Society in 1988. He was a member of the American Dental Society and a member of the Corydon-Palmer Dental Society. For over 30 years he and his wife Joan attended St. Patrick Parish, Hubbard, Ohio.
Joe leaves behind his loving wife Joan (Agnone) of 55 years. In addition, he is survived by son Carmen J. (C J) Julius (Lyn Yakubov), by daughter Michele Gianetti (John Gianetti), and by son Marcus J. Julius. He is deeply loved and remembered by his grandchildren Emily, Elizabeth, and Michael Gianetti.
Joe, a most dedicated and loving father and husband, will be greatly missed by his family to whom he gave his time, advice, understanding, and unconditional love. His steadiness, calm demeanor, and counsel were a constant source of strength for his family. Joe's words, his actions, and his active faith in God will be missed but always cherished. He truly was a special husband, father, and grandfather. What a gift from God he was to all of us!
The family members express our deepest gratitude to Joe's caregivers—Angel, Bridget, Debbie, Diana, Kara, Linda, Lisa, Loretta, Polly, Tonia, and Virginia—for their loving help and support. The family also extends its thanks to the staff of Autumn Hills Care Center for all of their help in the last 3 years.
Respecting his wishes, a private prayer service for Joseph's immediate family was held prior to his burial. In lieu of flowers, gifts, or other intentions, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Joseph F. Julius.
