Josephine E. "Jo" Macchione, 80, passed away in the early morning hours of December 8, 2014, at her residence following a brief illness.
Jo was born on July 20, 1934, in Girard, a daughter of the late Joseph and Santa Masternick Macchione. Her sister, Rosemarie Macchione, passed away in 1976. Jo lived her entire life in Girard, having graduated from Girard High School in 1952. She owned the Macchione Insurance Agency until her retirement in 2000. As a lifetime member of St. Rose Church, she participated in many church activities over the years including festivals and fundraisers as well as serving on parish council. Her volunteer work included the CCD program at her church and the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center. She was an avid bowler at Kay Lanes and Bellwick and enjoyed visiting the casinos.She will be missed by many loving relatives and many very special friends. Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main Street, Girard, on Saturday, December 13. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. Private interment will take place at Girard City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Hospice of the Valley.
