Girard- Lucy B.  Diorio Vitello passed away on October 8, 2014 after a courageous 4 month battle with a glioblastoma brain tumor. Lucy was born on January 15, 1930 in Youngstown, the daughter of Orazio and Adeline Nerone Diorio.  She was a 1949 graduate of Ursuline High School.  She worked 26 years for U.S Steel Corp. at the McDonald works plant as a Control Desk Clerk in data processing. Lucy was an active member of St. Edward Church as well as being an advocate for the mentally ill.  In 2006, she was a recipient of the Advocacy Award from the Drop-In-Center Advisory Board. She enjoyed sharing her excellent cooking and baking with family and friends, especially her very popular Buckeye cookies and pizzelles.  She enjoyed trips to the casinos and attending the many local Italian Festivals every summer. Lucy is survived by a son; Joseph (Annette) Vitello, two grandsons;  Joseph and Jordan, three sisters; Viola Castor, Dora Lewis and Edith Patrick, many nieces and nephews and many great –nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother; Nino Diorio, a sister; Beatrice Julian, and two nephews; Rocky Castor and Frank Juilan. Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 PM Sunday and 9 to 9:45 AM Monday at Schiavone Funeral Home .  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October, 13 2014 at 10 AM at St. Edward Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Lucy's memory can be sent to St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Ln. Youngstown, Ohio 44505. Lucy's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Masternick Memorial Health Care Center and Hospice of the Valley for their wonderful care and compassion.
