Vienna – A prayer service will be held at 1:30 pm on Thurs. Aug. 28, 2014 at Schiavone Funeral Home for Mario James (Mutt) Putigano, 88 who died Aug. 25, 2014 in Jameson Health Systems in New Castle. Mario was born in Campbell on April 5, 1926, a son of Louis and Antoinette Monaco Putigano. He was a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenters Union 171. He served on the HMS Onslaught for the Naval Armed Guard during WWII and was awarded the Arctic Star for his bravery and dedication during what Churchill coined "the worst journey in the world." Mario and his companion Phyllis Morici enjoyed crossword puzzles. He was known to finish the crosswords in the New Castle News in 12 minutes and complete the crosswords in the USA Today. Among others, Mario is survived by his two brothers; Robert and Santo Putigano and was preceded in death by his parents, sister; Viola Franco, and sister-in-laws; Victoria and Louise Putigano. Burial will be in Tod Homestead Cemetery.
