We are saddened to share that Mark Tomasko has passed away after a battle with cancer. He went peacefully on Jan. 10th, surrounded by loved ones at St. Elizabeth's in Boardman.
Born in Youngstown on April 14th, 1959, Mark was the third and youngest son of John and Mary Ann Tomasko. Mark was a hard working laborer, talented musician, and gifted athlete. He was kind, childlike, and bullish - "a refrigerator with a head."
Mark was an incredible father who took immense pride in his children, Nick and Zack of Boardman. After the passing of his beloved wife, Angela, Mark remained steadfast in his promise to take care of their two boys. He did not waver once.
Those who knew Mark will remember him for uncountable reasons. He was tough, but lovely. He wanted you to be comfortable, free to be yourself, whoever that was, whatever the situation. He loved singing and we loved hearing him. He was an exceptional percussionist. He could not stop talking about how proud he was of his sons, and I don't believe he wanted to.
Mark is survived by his children, his brother Kevin, his nieces Lauren, Alicia, Paulina, Isabel, Cecilia, Sophia, and Norah, his nephew Kevin, and many, many more he helped guide. He was preceded by his wife, Angela, his parents, John (Jack) and Mary Ann (Jean), and his brother, Greg.
A memorial service to celebrate Mark's life will be held on Friday, Jan. 17th From 5-7 PM at Schiavone's Funeral Home on the North Side. A short service will follow. Friends and family are encouraged to gather and share stories and memories of his joyous time here. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mark's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He would ask that you enjoy yourself and be kind to one another.
Mark will be deeply missed, but his larger than life personality and legacy reaches well beyond today.
