Michael Smotrilla

Youngstown - Michael Smotrilla passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016 in his Westside home after a battle with cancer. Michael was born Dec. 22, 1951 in Youngstown. The son of Edward and Mary Margaret Murtha Smotrilla. He graduated from New Castle School of Trades and became an electrician and maintenance worker for McDonald Ohio Works, Neff Co., and Simco Enterprises. Michael was an avid guitar player and touched many people with his music. He fought hard through his battle with cancer but never complained. He will be dearly missed by his wife; the former Sandra Menelle, whom he married November 27, 1976, their two sons; Sean (Annie) and Edward (Kimmy) Smotrilla, his mother; Mickey Smotrilla, his sister; Mary Jude (Marty) Kane, and his brother; Kevin (JoAnn) Smotrilla. Michael was preceded in death by his father and two brothers; Brendan and Marty Smotrilla. Friends and family will gather from 3-6pm on Thursday in Schiavone Funeral Home followed by a memorial service.
