Theresa Martinko DeCapua
Theresa R. DeCapua of Ellenton, Florida departed this life October 19, 2012, peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Theresa was born October 15, 1930 in Youngstown, the daughter of Stephen J. and Rosalee Rohovsky Martinko. She married her husband of sixty years, James R., on May10, 1952 in Youngstown, where they resided and raised their family.
Theresa was a graduate of Ursuline High School and received her diploma from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, her Bachelor's Degree from Youngstown State University and her MSN from Akron University. She began her nursing career at Woodside Receiving Hospital in Youngstown and continued at the former Southside Hospital. The majority of her career was spent as the Head of Psychiatric Nursing at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Later, she became the first Director of Outpatient Geriatric Services at St. Elizabeth Hospital's Southwoods Campus. In 1998, she and her husband James relocated to Florida where they spent their time enjoying their lives together.
As an avid sports fan, she enjoyed Notre Dame football games, as well as her beloved Cleveland Indians. Her love of her family was her passion and she will be sadely missed by all especially her husband of sixty years; James, her faithful canine companion; Abby, and her children; Jeanette (James) Klukan, Marie (Nicholas) Ihnat, Ralph (Marianne) DeCapua, Gene (Janet) DeCapua, and Stephen (Traci) DeCapua.
She leaves her brothers; Robert (Louise) and Stephen (Julie) Martinko, her sisters-in-law; Janice LaLama and Teresa DeCapua. Also, to her cherished memory she leaves her grandchildren; Daniel (Leslie) Battisti, Laura Nalin, Jerry (Katherine), Stephen (Jennifer), and Christina DePizzo, and Morgan and Grant DeCapua. She also leaves one great granddaughter; Sophia DePizzo.
Theresa was preceeded in death by her parents, a son James, and a grandson, David Battisti.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m., Thursday November 1, 2012, at Schiavone Funeral Home on Belmont Ave. The funeral service will be Friday, November 2, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Church in Canfield.
