Canfield - A Mass of Christian Burial will be said Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 10:00am by the Monsignor Michael J. Cariglio in the Basilica of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Youngstown for Frank James Zarlenga, 75, who died peacefully Wednesday at his residence.
Frank was born in Youngstown on December 5, 1942, the son of John James and Phyllis Richley Zarlenga, Sr. He was raised in the Brier Hill Section of Youngstown.
Frank was the Zoning Inspector for the City of Youngstown retiring after 35 years of service, a member of the Task Force for the Youngstown Police Department, an veteran with The United States Department of the Army during the Vietnam War stationed in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, a member of the National Rifle Association.
He was a member of the Basilicia of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Youngstown. His love for his family was always first in his mind and in his heart. He always stayed in touch with his 14 nieces and nephews via text or emails and always in CAPITAL LETTERS: "YES I DO HAVE THE GREATEST FAMILY IN THIS WORLD". Frank immensely enjoyed his 22 great nieces and nephews.
He was an avid golfer telling many stories regarding his golf buddies, a car enthusiast refurbishing several MGB's in his massive garage.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracey Ann Sarefield of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, his only grandchild, Stella Sarefield of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, a son, Alex Roth of Florida; two brothers, John J. (Deborah) Zarlenga, Jr., of Canfield, James V (Joyce M.) Zarlenga of Youngstown, three sisters, Rosemary (James) Handel of Canfield, Maria (Richard) Ragozine of Boardman and Gina Santore of Canfield, 14 nieces and nephews and 22 great nieces and nephews and soon to be 23. Aunt Gina Keiffer of Austintown, Aunt Eunice Richley of Florida, Aunt Mary Richley of Youngstown, Uncle Cyril Slifka of Youngstown and Aunt Joanne Zarlenga of Mentor, Oh. and his best friend, Beth Jacobson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Zachary Ramun, who died August 19, 2013, a great Nephew, Vincent James, who died, December 22, 2011.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00pm at Schiavone Funeral Home and 9:00-10:00am Wednesday in the church. Burial will be with his son at Calvary Cemetery.
