Avon - Born March 8, 1927, to Philomena and Anthony Biastro in Youngstown, Ohio, Joseph (Joe) was the youngest of five brothers (Michael, James, Christopher and Johnny,) (all pre-deceased). He was raised in Brier Hill and worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube before attending The Ohio State University to study engineering. He was also on the wrestling team. Following his brothers in the war effort, Joe served in World War II as a generator operator in Greenland. All the boys returned home safely from the war.
Once out of the Army Air Force, Joe met and married the love of his life, Jean Black in 1957. Together, they raised two daughters, Elizabeth and Laura (predeceased) and were married for 45 years before Jean passed. Joe operated Biastro Heating and Air Conditioning in the Youngstown area for 70 years before retiring at age 90. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth, granddaughter Kathryne, who always brought a smile to his face, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joe joined Western Reserve Baptist Church (Boardman) and later Poland United Methodist Church where he was a church trustee, helped served chicken dinners and participated in the Grief Share Support Group. He enjoyed making homemade sausage and wine, dancing with the Shenango Valley Sashayers, attending Curbstone Coach meetings, and gardening. He also enjoyed cheering on the Cleveland Browns, Springfield Tigers and Avon Eagles. Moving from New Middletown to Avon, Ohio in 2020, he resided at Rose Senior Living and enjoyed home cooked meals and get-togethers with his family.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 from 9:30-11am in Schiavone Funeral Home with a service to follow officiated by Reverend Michael Grant.
Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
