Terry Blue Jr. Obituary

Terry E. Blue Jr., 75, of Girard passed away on Thursday December 16, 2021 at Austintown Healthcare Center.

Terry was born in Youngstown at Northside Hospital. He spent his early years in Girard and Liberty Twp. When he was young, he tried his hands at many things. One of his fondest memories was when he tried his hand at being a ski instructor by pushing his brother Bob down the snow sledding hill when he was on children’s skis. This led to his short stint as a marathon runner.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy starting in 1966 and in his opinion, it was the real beginning of “His colorful life”. He spent his time in the Navy traveling the world and use to say that he had been drunk on six of the seven continents and had been to more countries then most people knew existed.

After retiring from the Navy, he started his second career as a civilian contractor at the Marine base in Cherry Point, North Carolina. From putting planes and helicopters together in the Navy, his second career had him tearing those same machines apart. An irony that was not lost on him.

Terry had many hobbies throughout his life. He was a lifelong Cleveland sports fan and a fan of Ohio State Football as well. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed many airplane and history magazines every month. He was a collector of Hot Wheels and die cast cars and he enjoyed bluegrass and banjo music. One of his dreams was to play banjo on stage but the closest he ever came was “playing” the “air banjo” in front a group of people after ingesting enough “courage”. He was also a volunteer at the Akron MAP Museum where he was helping to rebuild a Corsair for display at the museum.

Terry is preceded in death by his wife Eleanor, his parents Lulu and Terry, his half-brother Tony, brothers: Grant, Ted, Summers, Bob and Gene, and sister Gayla. He leaves behind his half-sister Laurel, sisters-in-law Dot and Bea and many nephews and nieces.

A military burial will be held graveside at 11:00 a.m. on January 15, 2021 at Tod Cemetery.
