Liberty - Ruth Helen (Cox) DiLallo, 84 was carried by angels home to the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 29, 1931, she moved to Youngstown as a teenager. A graduate of North High School, she attended Y.S.U. graduating from Choffin Nursing School. Ruth began her nursing career at St. Elizabeth Hospital from 1973-1978, a pediatric nurse for Dr. Norma Hazelbaker until she retired in 1986 to become a full time nanny for seven years. Ruth had a very accomplished amateur music career as a soprano. She studied voice under William Mc Guire of Chicago, recitals at Stambaugh Auditorium, member of symphony and opera choruses under Dr. Ron Gould for many years, performed in seven operas, directed by Radio City Music Hall and conductor Franz Bibo and choir soloist at Faith Lutheran Church. The highlight of her life was to be chosen as one of the first Americans to perform in Russia for the Bridges of Song with the Cincinnati and Youngstown Symphony Orchestras combined with the Moscow and Leningrad Symphony Orchestras and the Glinka Chorus in Fallen, Estonia. Later in life she participated in the St. Elizabeth Follies, Senior Center Golden Follies, joining the Youngstown Playhouse performing in Oklahoma and Kismet. She volunteered for Make Today Count, Hospice, SCOPE Office of Elderly Affairs, Trumbull Co. Mobile Meals where she was a board member and delivered for 18 years, and mentored for the Star Program. She was also a nurse for International Village, Camp Falling Leaf, and Ohio Boys Choir. Ruth leaves her beloved husband Frank of 63 years, her children; William (Shirley) Phillips of Hubbard, Frank A. (Michelle) DiLallo of Toledo, Mary Ann DiLallo of Tierra Verde, FL, Mark Andrew DiLallo of Youngstown, three granddaughters, three grandsons, seven great grandchildren, a sister; Patricia (Tony) Parish of Youngstown, a brother; Dr. Gary Cox of CA, many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; Herbert and Elizabeth Doseh Cox, sisters; Marion P. Jarrell and Barbara Lou Katz, sister-in-law; Susan L. Cox, beloved great nephew; Levi Gargan and great neice; Holley Parisi. Family and friends will gather from 4-8 P.M. on Friday, Feb. 26, 2016 in Schiavone Funeral Home and from 9-10 A.M. on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016 in New Life Lutheran Church with a funeral service to follow. Donations may be made in memoriam to Hospice of the Valley or Liberty in Bloom.
