Carmel Marie (Zillo) Butch, 88

Youngstown – Carmel Marie (Zillo) Butch, 88, passed away quietly at home in the presence of loved ones.

Carmel was born Oct. 19, 1926 in Struthers, to Charles and Philomena (Pacifico) Zillo.

Carmel grew up in Struthers, working in the downtown Isaly’s while attending Struthers High School. During the war, she worked at Truscon, where she welded seats for fighter planes.

She moved to Youngstown in 1946 when she married her husband Vince Butch. She worked part time for many years at Strouss’s department store in downtown in the sleepwear department. This was more of a social event for her than work, and she was known for her smile, her wit, and always having a drawer full of candy she was willing to share. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church where, until her health failed, she would bake pizza on Fridays.

She loved her family and friends and delighted in being a homemaker. She was known as an excellent cook and baker and as one who tried to feed you within five minutes of you entering her home. Throughout her life people were drawn to her warmth, her kindness, her sense of humor, and most importantly, her ability to be a good friend.

Carmel leaves behind her son, Vincent Buccieri of Youngstown, her sisters-in-law; Mary Butch and Carolyn Kaufman of Youngstown, her brother-in-law; Dominic Castor of Hubbard, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years; Vince, her sisters and brothers-in- law; Jenny (Mike) Jackintell, Theresa (Nick) Polito, Mary (Andy) Colantone, Josephine (Al) Rich, her brothers and sisters-in-law; Mike (Natalie) and James (Esther) Zillo.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, July27, from 9:30-11:30 am in Schiavone Funeral Home. A mass will follow at noon in St. Anthony Church.
