Sister Mary Letizia (Anna) Marino, 93

LIBERTY - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial offered at       10 a.m.
on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at St. Anthony Church, Youngstown, for Sister Mary
Letizia (Anna) Marino, 93, of the Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of
Jesus, who died on Feb. 13, at Liberty Arms Health Center.
Sister Mary Letizia was born Feb. 17, 1921, in Orsara di Puglia, Province of
Foggia, Italy, daughter of the late Silvestro Marino and Grazietta Cibelli.
She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Rosina Lepore and Maria
Marino.
She is survived by her brothers, Rev. Rocco Marino and Giuseppe (Lucia)
Marino; and by a niece and several nephews, all residing in Italy.
Sister Letizia joined the Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in
1939, professed her first vows in 1941, and made her perpetual profession on
Sept. 8, 1947. Two years later, on Nov. 5, 1929, Sister Letizia, along with
nine other young Oblate Sisters, arrived in the United States to be the
first group of Oblate Sisters to serve in the Youngstown Diocese.
Sister Letizia taught kindergarten children of over 40 years. She was also a
catechist for the elementary grades. Sister taught at Our Lady of Perpetual
Parish in McDonald, St. Anthony Parish in Youngstown, St. Frances Cabrini
and St. Mary Parish in Conneaut, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish in
Lowellville, St. Columba Parish in Youngstown and in Canada at St. Rock
Parish in Toronto.
Sister Letizia was the oldest living Oblate Sister of the Sacred Heart and
the last surviving member of the original group of 10 Sisters who began the
American foundation.
Sister Letizia will be remembered for her great love for her congregation,
for priests and children and for her generosity and sense of humor.
We are especially grateful for the loving and skilled care given to Sister
Letizia (Anna Marino) by the staff at the Liberty Arms Health Care Center in
Liberty.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Oblate Sisters and sent
